Voter Information

To Vote, Ramsey County Residents Must Be:

  • U.S. citizen
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Resident of Minnesota for at least 20 days
  • Resident of the precinct on Election Day

Voter Registration
If you are not already registered to vote, you can register at your polling place on Election Day. You need to register if you have:

  • Never voted in Minnesota
  • Not voted in the past 4 years
  • Changed your name since last voting
  • Changed your address since last voting

Registering Before Election Day
You may register to vote in person or by mail at the Ramsey County Elections office or at any city or town hall in Ramsey County.

Download voter registration forms by going to www.co.ramsey.mn.us/elections/docs/forms/voterregistrationcard Deadline for pre-registration is August 25th for the primary and October 13th for the general election.

Registration On Election Day At Your Polling Place
You can also register at your polling place on Election Day. You must show the election judges ONE of the following documents:

  1. Valid MN Dirver’s license, learner’s permit or MN ID card (or a receipt for any of these documents) that includes your current address.
  2. College Students may use a:
    1. Current student fee statement containing your current address and a photo ID
    2. Current student ID card including your photo (if your college has provided a student housing list to Ramsey County Elections).
    3. Current student ID card including your photo with an original utility bill.
  3. Oath of a registered voter in the precinct who can vouch for your residency in the precinct.
  4. Prior registration at another address in your precinct.
  5. Notice of late registration mailed to you by Ramsey County Elections.
  6. Tribal identification card containing your name, signature, address and photo.

OR

ONE document from EACH of the following two groups:

  1. Photo IDs – must contain your name and photo
    1. MN Driver’s license or ID card with a previous address
    2. US passport
    3. US military ID card
    4. Tribal ID with your signature
    5. Student ID card from a Minnesota college
  2. Original Utility Bills with your name and current address and have a due date of 30 days prior or after the election date
    1. Gas
    2. Telephone
    3. Satellite or Cable TV
    4. Internet provider
    5. Water
    6. Electric
    7. Cell Phone
    8. Sewer or Solid Waste Services
    9. Itemized rent statement that includes utilily expenses
    10. Student fee statement for the current semester or quarter is also acceptable.
