President’s Report

Wefel stated that Holly Biron is moving from the neighborhood and is resigning from the Board, thus she will no longer be able to continue as Secretary. A call went out to Board members to volunteer for this position.

Executive Director’s Report

Due to our inability to recruit the required 24 members for wrist band sales, GABA needed to give SHA’s wristband sales slot to another organization. We have been given the opportunity to staff a soft drink booth and need 9 persons to do so. 7 signed up tonight, we will need two more for the last shift.

SHA PARADE ON GRAND OLD DAYS

Barrera stated that one family from the neighborhood will join us for the parade and encouraged others to join in as well. The SHA website will be updated to advertise the event to the community.

NEW BUSINESS

Highland Park Council

There was a general discussion about the recent Highland Park election in which half of the Council and most of the officers were replaced. The question of whether this was an organized effort by Republicans in that area was addressed. The by-laws of SHA are such that only one third of our members are replaced yearly. It was brought out that our by-laws allow write in candidates, which if used properly, are a good thing but do make us more vulnerable to a takeover situation. Increasing the interest for potential Board members at the SHA annual meeting was mentioned. Last year’s debate among the House 64A candidates was a success and similar ideas for this year were discussed.

Art Fair on East Grand during Grand Old Days

Winsor noted that Grand Hand Gallery is promoting an art crawl at the east end of Grand, (between St. Albans and Dale) as an alcohol free, family friendly event, during Grand Old Days.

GABA NEWS

Lucke encouraged attendance at the May Meet and Greet at California Closets. These events are a great opportunity to meet people and get a sense of the area.

TREASURER’ REPORT

Breymeier distributed monthly financial statements to the Board. No outstanding issues were noted.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Communications
Odman had nothing new to report. The next meeting is June 11, 2007. The committee plans to review the SHA website at that meeting.

Development
Haas stated that September 14, 2008 is the date for the SHA House Tour. A committee is being formed for the tour. It was suggested that articles be placed in the Summit regarding the tour and the volunteer opportunities available to persons who are interested.

Environment
Rulff noted that the prairie burn was a success. The Spring Clean Up is May 12, 2007.

Zoning
Flahaven stated that a Conditional Use Permit for a carriage house at 942 Summit was approved by the ZLU, unanimously. Also that the committee voted to appeal the city determination that Noodles and Company is not a fast food restaurant. The hearing will be before the Board of Zoning Appeals on May 21, 2007 at 3 pm, Board members are needed for preparing the appeal.

There was a related discussion wherein Barrera called for working more proactively with developers and property owners to encourage businesses to come fill the vacancies existing on Grand. Broton stated he had surveyed the area for existing vacant properties and would forward those to Jeff Roy, who will e-mail them to the Board.
