Environment & Beautification Committee

Committee Goal:

Coordinate the annual spring cleanup, maintain the Linwood Park upper gardens, coordinate the Sam Morgan native prairie restoration project, bring important environmental issues to the attention of the SHA Board, work on other neighborhood beautification projects.

Projects: 

  • Sam Morgan Prairie and Linwood Gardens
  • Grand Avenue Greening Projects
  • New The Summit newsletter Greening column

 

Accomplishments:


  • Established and maintaining the Sam Morgan Prairie at Linwood Park
  • April 2007 Sam Morgan Prairie restoration burn and Sept. 2007 Replanting Project
  • Established and maintaining the Linwood Park upper gardens
  • Installed underground watering system for maintainence of Linwood Park upper gardens
  • Coordinate the Annual Neighborhood Spring Clean Up
  • Promote weekly curbside recycling
  • Host Annual Neighborhood Garage Sales

Current Projects:

  • Planning Spring 2009 Plant Exchange
  • Work with Grand Avenue Business Association to promote reducing/recycling on Grand Avenue  
  • Promote neighborhood environmental stewardship through new "green" column in The Summit newsletter
  • Planning quarterly public information sessions on environmental issues

Ongoing Projects:

  • Annual Neighborhood Clean Up
  • Promoting the successful expansion and regeneration of the Sam Morgan Prairie at Linwood Rec Center
  • Maintaining Linwood Upper Gardens
  • Actively encourage community-based curb side recycling in the neighborhood
